Vamos con una de las leyendas vivas del Blues JOHNNY WINTER

John Dawson "Johnny" Winter Hijo de un militar, nació el 23 de febrero de 1944 en Beaumont, Texas. Al principio aprendió a a tocar el clarinete, aunque al fin se decantó por la guitarra. Despues de la escuela, Johnny cursa estudios en el Lamar technical college. En Louisana los fines de semana los aprovechaba para tocar en pequeños night-clubs. En los años 50, se situó entre el country y la música cajún, tocando en los bares de los cantantes negros. Johnny Winter viene del sur segregacionista, donde cantaba a los cuatro vientos que un blanco como él, por ende albino, hiciera música de color. Pero gracias a su empeño, a su devoción por Muddy Waters y a sus estancias en Chicago, escuchamos de su 
mano, versiones estupendas de los clásicos del género. Winter formó su primera banda a los 14 años con su hermano Edgar. Pasó su juventud grabando temas con proyección regional y tocando blues en los bares. Su descubrimiento a nivel nacional llegó a través de un artículo en la revista Rolling Stone en 1968, lo que le valió un contrato con un propietario de un club neoyorkino y una grabación con Columbia. Sudisco de debut oficial, Johnny Winter, es de 1969. A pesar de que empezó con un trío, más tarde formó una banda con antiguos componentes de The McCoys, se llamó Johnny Winter And. Consiguió buenas ventas en 1971 con un directo y con su disco de 1973 Still Alive and Well. Sus discos se hicieron cada vez más orientados al blues a finales de los setenta y produjo también varios álbumes de Muddy Waters. En los ochenta, grabó tres discos para el sello de bluesAlligator y ha grabado desde entonces con MCA y Pointblank/Virgin.
